It’s hard enough to control traffic in downtown Toronto, but a sign that remains on Bayview Ave. is closed, redirects drivers to Parliament Street, but there’s no need. The project that caused the road to close has been finished since September 30th.
Good construction signage allows drivers to be able to adjust for road work and leave earlier or find alternative routes that are easiest for them to get where they need to be. However, the sign that has stayed on Bayview is still causing drivers to redirect elsewhere.
Mark McElwain emailed to say that a sign warning of the Bayview closure, facing eastbound drivers on King St., west of Parliament St., has exceeded its best-before date.
He noted the sign “tells us the Bayview extension is closed until Sept. 30, south of River. Which it was. Except that the project was (surprisingly?) finished on time. About 45 days ago. But the sign remains.
Luckily, when reporters from the Toronto Star reached out to the business where the sign sits, they learned that the sign was put out to be taken by the city’s waste management professionals, but was left out for private trash pick up and was left out. While it did confuse some drivers, the waste management company said it shouldn’t have been set out like that to be seen by those on the road.
