Photographer Richard Corman released an exclusive photographic book devoted to the photo shoot he created with Madonna back in 1983, a few months before the release of her first studio album. Corman’s book is a captivating portrait of Madonna in the beginning of her career. He photographed the singer on the recommendation of his mother, a casting director who had seen her audition for a film role."As a young photographer in 1983, I had the opportunity to capture a series of images with Madonna as she was on the verge of releasing her debut album," said Richard Corman. "The rebellious energy of the East Village was the backdrop to showcase Madonna's style, spontaneity and pioneering attitude. She consistently conveyed an attitude of fearlessness and fierce determination."
As a portrait photographer, Richard Corman has worked with subjects ranging from Nobel Peace Prize recipients (Nelson Mandela, James Dewey Watson) to actors (Robert De Niro, Paul Newman, Al Pacino), athletes (Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Muhammad Ali) and musicians of our time (Sting, Wynton Marsalis). A native New Yorker, Corman studied at Hunter College, later spending two years apprenticing with Richard Avedon in the early 1980s.
The book is designed by Yolande Cuomo Design.
