iSpeedbuy Receives Patent on Text Message Paging and Ordering System

"We are extremely pleased to be awarded this patent. It's the culmination of years of testing and product development," said Mike Ellis, iSpeedbuy's founder.
System will enable business-to-consumer notifications, reminders and marketing via cell phones. Applications include restaurants, airlines, doctors, dentists, spas and salons.

COLUMBIA, Maryland (May 9, 2014) - iSpeedbuy, LLC, today announced it was granted U.S. Patent 8,718,684 for a business-to-consumer text message paging and ordering system based on common short code numbers that all major wireless carriers accept.

“We are extremely pleased to be awarded this patent. It’s the culmination of years of testing and product development,” said Mike Ellis, iSpeedbuy’s founder.

The web-based system, sold under the brand SoQuik TextPage, is used in multiple industries to send notifications, reminders and marketing messages to consumers.

Basing TextPage on 5 or 6-digit short codes rather than 10-digit phone numbers allows businesses to send significantly more messages in a given period of time, which is important in high-volume and time-sensitive environments. In addition, short codes differ from 10-digit numbers in that they must fully comply with carriers’ privacy and spam regulations, thereby reassuring consumers.

“I got the idea for text-based notification years ago when I was out to dinner with my family in a crowded restaurant and I was handed a coaster pager while waiting to be seated,” said Ellis. “I was struck by the fact that I already had a superior communication device in my pocket. Why not use it?”

TextPage for Restaurants was tested at Phillips Seafood Baltimore, a landmark restaurant alongside Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, where it is still used to notify patrons waiting to be seated that their tables are ready.

“We have been using TextPage for a number of years, and it completely eliminated the need for electronic pagers from the onset,” said Brian Fountain, general manager at Phillips. “We run three simultaneous wait queues all with varying wait times, and the system syncs them all via iPads and touch screens.  It’s really been a tremendous asset for our wait line management.”

iSpeedbuy also developed applications for other industries, including airlines, auto dealerships, spas and salons, healthcare practices, and tradeshow exhibit halls, among others.

“We offer APIs (application programming interface) that allow firms to seamlessly integrate the system with their applications using minimal coding. This dramatically shortens development times and frees companies to concentrate on their core competences,” said Ellis.

Based near Columbia, Maryland, ISpeedbuy, LLC provides web and mobile text message and ordering applications. Firms interested in learning more about SoQuik TextPage or its APIs can visit www.soquiktextpage.com or call (888) 676-7845.
