PETRONAS’ Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar B Abbasand Pavilion Energy’s Seah Moon Ming are among the speakers who will address key LNG issues at LNGA, to be held in Singapore on Feb 25 and 26.
18 February 2014, Singapore – Pressing LNG-related issues, including the impending development of new liquefaction capacity, the impact of the Henry Hub on Asian prices, and the new equilibrium for the LNG market will likely dominate discussions when the world’s leading LNG players gather at the LNG Supplies for Asian Markets (LNGA) conference later this month.
Speakers include PETRONAS’ President and Group CEO Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar B Abbas, who will share his vision for the LNG business, Pavilion Energy’s Group Chief Executive Officer Seah Moon Ming, who will speak on LNG opportunities in Asia, and Japan’s Director-General for Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) Takayuki Sumita.
The guest-of-honour is Singapore’s former President S.R. Nathan. Mr. S. Iswaran, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office & Second Minister for Home Affairs & Trade and Industry, Singapore, will deliver the Keynote Ministerial Address.
The theme for this year’s conference, which will be held at the Singapore’s Goodwood Park Hotel on 25 and 26 February, is “Rising Demand for LNG vs Consumer Price Resistance: Can There be a Compromise?”
It takes place against a dynamic global energy backdrop that has been dominated by developments in LNG, says conference co-chairman and Chairman of oil and gas consulting group FGE, Dr. Fereidun Fesharaki, adding that this will be one of the first times representatives of emerging LNG suppliers like Mozambique, the US, and Canada will share their upcoming plans and strategies.
“A whole new world in the LNG business has arrived, one dominated by a new group of sellers, different geographies, and different prices. These changes have implications for the region. For a country like Singapore, for example, which is concerned about energy security and prices, it provides an opportunity for diversification.
“Also, the LNG market is moving towards a new equilibrium but no one knows where this equilibrium might be. LNGA 2014 will shed light on where the new market balance will move to and what is next in the plans of consumers and producers,” explains Dr. Fesharaki.
Conference co-chairman Andy Flower, an LNG consultant, is equally positive about 2014, explaining that the decline in LNG production in the last two years looks ripe for a turnaround, and that many are seeking to understand key developments in the Pacific Basin.
“2014 will see the start of a new surge in supply in Asia, which will mean another 75 million tonnes of LNG capacity coming on-stream in the region by 2020. That will change the dynamics in the region, and could affect spot prices and trading patterns. Some planned projects will also finally move to the construction stage, and that will be key in driving growth for LNG beyond 2018,” Mr Flower explains.
Other conference speakers include Deputy Assistant Secretary for Oil & Natural Gas, Department of Energy, USA, Dr. Paula Gant, former COO & Executive Director of BG Group, Mr. Martin J. Houston, and Chief Executive of Singapore’s Energy Market Authority, Mr. Chee Hong Tat.
CEOs, Presidents, and senior advisers from some of the leading oil and gas companies from around the world, as well as government representatives from countries that sell and buy LNG also feature on the speaker faculty (see Appendix A for a full list of speakers and agenda).
The two-day conference (25 & 26 February) will be preceded by two pre-conference workshops on 24 February 2014. These will cater to delegates keen to deepen their knowledge on LNG Supply and Pricing led by Mr. Andy Flower, an LNG & Natural Gas Consultant and co-chairman of LNGA, and LNG Sales and Purchase Agreements led by Mr. Ben Smith of Norton Rose Fulbright, Hong Kong.
