If the latest products unveiled at CES 2014 are anything to go by, an oven designed by Dacor that can be controlled via mobile device is one of the hottest new appliances of the year. In addition, the Discovery iQ 48in Dual-Fuel range, a two-oven appliance featuring an integrated wireless-connected Android tablet, is the latest in sophisticated kitchen gadgetry.
A cooking app, which allows a user to look up recipes and other cooking advice on the oven, has also been launched and will be available this season. When the food is finished per the recipe timing, the oven automatically switches to “warmer” mode, and will send the chef a text when it is done. The Discovery iQ will go on sale from June 2014 at a price of $12,000.
As far as refrigerations go, the 4-Door Refrigerator gained the most respect and attention. Designed to maximize the preservation of delicate ingredients via a triple cooling system, a metal cooling plate and a ‘Chef Pantry', a temperature-controlled compartment that allows items like fish to be optimally chilled at 30 degrees fahrenheit to extend quality and taste.
"The Home of the Future has to protect, be flexible, and be responsive," said Boo-keun Yoon, Co-CEO of Samsung Electronics, adding that this "needs technology that will connect all the digital dots in the lives of consumers."
