Majority of new Dental graduates are looking at an MBA in Hospital Management for better prospects

After an intense and grueling undergraduate course in the field of medicine, students want to graduate to good jobs that align with their professional interests but also offer good salaries. Hospital Management MBA course at IIHMR offers precisely that. Professionals are looking for uniqueness in the program that they wish to follow. A traditional management professional degree doesn't cut out in an exclusive and niche field such as ours.
— Dr. S.D. Gupta, President, IIHMR

Jaipur, 29th April, 2014: Indian pioneer institute in Hospital Management and Research, IIHMR, Jaipur, has received more than 45% of its admissions this year from students with Dental Backgrounds. The remaining students also hail from graduate backgrounds such as Science (12.75%), Pharma (10.78%), Physiotherapy (7.35%), Engineering (6.37%), Ayruvedic Medicine (3.75%) and others (15%).

The major reason being that for students enrolled in professional undergraduate courses such as engineering, technology and medicine, one wouldn’t expect a high rate of enrollment into the post graduate professional courses. But, surprisingly, the admissions data from IIHMR shows differently. More than 60% applicants to their prestigious Hospital Management MBA program are from the medicine or related fields, such as Dentistry, Pharma, Physiotherapy, Ayurvedic Medicine, Homeopathic medicine, these fields are unable to offer jobs in India, because these industries like most industries in India has to reach a level of maturity first, so there is a huge difference in terms of the money spent on basic education at the graduate level and ROI once you are actually offered a job.  The students from the basic graduate studies in the fields of Dental, Pharma, Physiotherapy and others face the same employment issues such as a student from a basic BA, BCOM or BSC would encounter. Therefore, a lot of students from professional course are still looking at getting into a post graduate program that would offer them better job prospects.

Looking at the current admission scenario Dr. S.D. Gupta, President, IIHMR said, “After an intense and grueling undergraduate course in the field of medicine, students want to graduate to good jobs that align with their professional interests but also offer good salaries. Hospital Management MBA course at IIHMR offers precisely that. Professionals are looking for uniqueness in the program that they wish to follow. A traditional management professional degree doesn’t cut out in an exclusive and niche field such as ours.”

Majority of applicants are from Dental surgery graduates, upto 45%. Main reason being that setting up own clinic is a highly capital intensive and joining a Hospital doesn’t offer them lucrative salaries. So, for them it made sense to specialize in the management aspects of running hospital and clinics.

Dr. Gupta further added that Over the past 15 years, there has been a great euphoria of a high rate of India’s growth, attributing it not only to the growth of various industries, but also to the large pool of talented, educated, English speaking man power. As much as this whole story, on highly talented workers available in India, has been spun in different ways, the fact remains that majority of graduates from Indian Universities are not employable. Hence there is demand for professional post graduate programs.
