According to the official Game of Thrones production blog, filming for the Purple Wedding has already wrapped, and fans can expect to see it sometime during the next season. The event is said to be one of the most major since those that happened in season one.
The Purple Wedding was filmed in the Sept of Baelor set, which is located in Belfast. The reception was later shot outdoor in Parc Gradac in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Cat Taylor, who writes on the production blog, says “"In terms of principal cast members in attendance, the Royal Wedding was one of the largest scenes we've filmed since the premiere season, with 23 named parts appearing on any given day”.
The blog didn’t list any spoilers for fans to revel in until the big day, but creator George R.R. Martin himself talked about why the wedding is called the “purple” wedding, though it may be for different reasons than viewers expect:
“It's what the fans call the Purple Wedding, based on the color of the wine, which plays a big part. It looks spectacular, the bride's dress incorporates roses, there are 77 courses at the dinner feast, and there's some wonderful halftime entertainment."
