Winter Safety Advice from Team Accident Claims

As temperatures drop and sick days rise, we all know winter has arrived. For some the winter months can be a depressing time of year but we like to encourage a bit of outdoor activity. Accident Claims have put together some tips and tricks to stay safe this winter.

On the Road This Winter - As the road and weather conditions change we all need to adapt the way we drive. To avoid unnecessary accidents why not set off that little bit earlier so you’re not rushing around. You never know when you’re going to hit that bad patch on the road! Some of the most severe accidents and injuries can happen whilst drivers are rushing around and lose sight of the what is really important – your safety and the safety of other drivers.  2012 saw over 5,000 reported injuries to the Department of Transport as a result of ice or snow on road surfaces, including 38 deaths. Take care, slow down. It’s always a good idea to check road conditions before you travel and you can do this by visiting www.highways.gov.uk.

Accident Claims have provided free grit to those in need as part of their routine giveaways offering people essential products to keep them free from accident and injury. To be in the know you need to regularly check http://www.accidentclaims.co.uk

Did you know you can request road gritting from the DirectGov site?

Slips, Trips and Falls - The most common injuries sustained during the winter months are from slips, trips and falls on the icy ground. Thankfully most of the accidents caused from falling on ice result in just minor bumps or bruises. For older people the consequences of falling on the ice can be severe and serious injuries can be sustained. We all need to do our bit to make sure the footpaths and public areas are kept well maintained. If you see a dangerous area that is the responsibility of a business or council then let them know. Don’t wait for someone to have an accident to raise health and safety questions. Elderly people should try to limit the number of trips going outdoors and if possible request someone make the trip for them. Sturdy footwear is always advisable but even more so as the footpaths become icy.

A lot of business owners fear the risk of someone having an accident on the ice and looking for compensation. Every business has a responsibility to make sure the land they operate on is safe for the public. The fear of consumer safety should always come first. As we’ve said, if you see a business that has failed to take reasonable steps to ensure the external premises are safe then inform them immediately – this way you’ve done your bit when it comes to accident prevention.

As with anything there are always those that ignore advice and fail to consider others. If you have been the victim of a road traffic accident or a slip, trip or fall because of no fault of your own then the Accident Claims team welcome your call. They’ve been advising people for over forty years and offer a comprehensive compensation claims service. Even if you’re just looking for a bit of winter safety advice they are happy to talk to you.
