A self-proclaimed witness to the two football fans who fell off the railing following Sunday's Colts game at the Lucas Oil Stadium stated that the structure appeared shaky prior to the actual accident.
Dalton Tinklenberg stated that he was before the two men who fell. He stated he witness the two men fall nearly 20 feet from their original standing places to the field tunnel following the game. The barrier the men were leaning on was located above the visitors tunnel.
Before the accident, Tinklenberg noted that he saw the fans yelling in the direction of Raiders safety Charles Woodson as they attempt to attain his gloves. According to Tinklenberg, Woodson was walking toward the tunnel thru the gloves to the fans, but the gloves did not reach their intended target, instead landing on the apron over the tunnel.
The two fans were leaning on the rail as they attempted to reach the gloves, and that is when, according to Tinklenberg, he heard a loud pop. One of the men fell down and onto his back while the other fell on top of him. Tinklenberg stated that both men almost landed atop Woodson.
"I was looking over after they fell, the guy (who fell on his back) was saying, 'No, no, I'm fine,'" he said. "He was kind of waving his hand, saying he was OK."
"It was really just kind of a lot of pandemonium and confusion," Tinklenberg said about the accident. "Several guys, including myself, we didn't really know what to do. You can't really help from 20 feet down."
The fans were located at Section 148 when they fell onto the tunnel walkway. One of the men was evaluated by the IU Health medical team and released, the other was taken to Methodist Hospital for further evaluation, according to Barney Levengood, executive director of the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium. He added that the latter individual "did not appear to be seriously injured."
