Malama means to "care for". The vision of the Malama Project is to care for Hawaiian children's education, culture, lands, waters, and future. The future begins with children, and in order for the people of Hawai’i to have a brighter future, we must help light the path for our youth today. Building a strong community there must be a solid foundation on which the community can build on. By creating culturally relevant products, the Malama Project can help every family that does not have the resources to purchase the basic educational tools for school.
The goal of the project is to produce a series of educational products for students of all grade levels from Elementary to High School students. The educational products would consist of backpacks made specifically to inspire youth. School organizers designed to empower students will help students with organization of school materials. Insulated lunch bags designed to motivate the student will give a place for nutritional foods needed to keep the student healthy and alert.
By creating culturally relevant products, students who do not have the financial resources to buy the basic tools for school would now be provided with those products allowing students to focus all energy on academics. The intention of the project is to embark on a journey to a brighter future for all the children of Hawaii. “By working together in harmony and as “one” we can achieve great things for our children’s future. We can be a vessel of change for all children with the support of the Malama Project,” says Rudy
Rojas, Executive Director / The Malama Project. As a supporter of the Malama Project supporters, can receive authentic Ali’i Nui products. “Just as our ancestors navigated the waters of the Pacific Ocean in search of new lands and a better way of life. The Malama Project is embarking to create a brighter future for the children of Hawai’i by helping them achieve their fullest potential through education. With your help, we will create academic tools of empowerment for students in Hawai'i as a path towards higher learning, individual growth and broader social change," says Rudy Rojas.
In order for the “Malama Project” to serve Hawaiian students and families, Rudy Rojas has begun an Indiegogo Crowd-funding campaign to help fund the program. Rudy Rojas is seeking support for the program to be available to all the students. Funding from supporters will allow for all the needed materials, staff, and the delivery of the program to all the students awaiting to join the program.
