“Congo-Brazzaville,” named after famous Italian explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza, has developed over the years into a notable, tourist-friendly destination known for its welcoming culture and rich history. Renovations of hotels, restaurants and historic buildings make the city a pleasant stopover to both Pointe Noire and the Congolese rain forests. Brazzaville is the perfect place for a low-key afternoon of vibrant culture and cuisine or a laid-back day on sun-soaked beaches. For the more adventurous, the city is also a good starting point for rainforest hikes or courageous African safaris.
Over 1/3 of the Republic of Congo’s 1,307,911 population lives in Brazzaville and the language is French, so you may want to bring along a dictionary. However, the city is home to 40% of non-agricultural employment and is often considered the financial and administrative capital of Central Africa, so banking and financial transactions should not pose a problem for the experienced traveler.
The Republic of Congo’s climate is tropical wet most of the year, from October to May, with late June to August being the dry season--when precipitation rarely occurs.
