Sesawng, Mizoram, India – The Just Let Me Learn Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the vicious cycle of poverty in India, is currently raising funds to build a brand new school in Sesawng Village.
Sesawng is a remote village located high in mountains of India. Many of the youth in this village do not even have birth certificates and thus do not even exist in the eyes of their government. These kids are not allowed to attend school. Other children cannot afford the uniforms or transportation that is necessary for their education.
When Dean Nelson and his mother Sandy, the co-founders of Just Let Me Learn, visited Sesawng in 2012, they were overwhelmed by the conditions there. The parents and leaders in the village begged them to build a new school so that their children could have the education and the opportunities that they had been denied.
The original plan for the Sesawng Village School is to build Pre-K, Elementary and Middle School classrooms for approximately 750 students. After this initial phase, future plans for the school would also include a soccer field, a High School wing, boys and girls dormitories, a village auditorium, a cafeteria and a science and computer lab. Just Let Me Learn plans on this school being the start of a much larger vision, one that gives every child in Sesawng and its neighboring villages a chance to get an education.
Since being founded in 2007, the Just Let Me Learn Foundation has already had a huge impact on education in India. The foundation has already purchased a pair of school buses and finished construction on a brand new tutoring center. They have also nearly finished their first school that was built from the ground up. This school, located in the village of Saiphai, is projected to be finished in the next few months and will give over 750 children access to a high quality education.
In order to fund the construction of the Sesawng Village School, Just Let Me Learn has created a page on Indiegogo where people can donate. The foundation has set their fundraising goal at $149,000, which would be enough to build and open the school. Just Let Me Learn is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit foundation and all money received on their Indiegogo page goes directly towards paying for the Sesawng Village School project.
