The last October was a real shock to the customers, when the award winning PanoLogic, the initiator of Zero client for VDI architecture shut down the company without an alarm. The abandoned customers were devastated, till Propalms, the provider for remote based computer services acquired the company and its rights this June.
After this acquisition, there are many VDI providers including Propalms who came forth to provide a conversion path to the existing customers of PanoLogic. Many of these were the leading companies with a strong support for the VDI based components. One such company as an example is DevonIT.
DevonIT has recently proclaimed to offer the customers of PanoLogic a conversion path to the new thin clients with its products. There is however a huge gap if it is realized. DevonIT’s VDI architecture is very much different when compared to that of PanoLogic. The major difference is that they specialize in the thin client solutions, as opposed to zero clients by PanoLogic.
The immediate need is therefore for a company whose architecture and products are similar to that of PanoLogic. SUNDE provides an alternative to this.
SUNDE, a Zero Client Solutions provider resembles the PanoLogic architecture in the following manner:
- From hardware perspective, both support the zero clients as the endpoint devices.
- They offer VDI based solutions, unlike most of the IT providers which offer session based solutions.
- They both have dedicated server software, the connection broker and the management console.
- Both of these companies have proprietary remote display protocols for an efficient multimedia flow.
In addition to this, there are some significant advantages if the customers choose to go with SUNDE:
- SUNDE’s VDI set-up is comparatively simpler.
- SUNDE’s Diana Zero Client is comparatively less expensive than others.
- The customers who have compared the performances of PanoLogic and SUNDE zero clients claim that SUNDE performs better.
Before concluding, these customers however have a right to know the ways in which SUNDE’s solution is different from PanoLogic’s:
- SUNDE lacks the virtual client software to convert an old PC to a zero client.
- SUNDE does not have a USB key, which can enable the company’s remote login from home PC.
- SUNDE does not support VMWare, Citrix and Hyper-V platform from Microsoft but currently goes with Oracle VirtualBox, although they aim to support more platforms in the future.
Even with all these differences, it is presently the best option that the existing customers of PanoLogic may consider.
