Hampton, VA – August 6, 2013 – Parsons International conducted a premier Golf Tournament on June 21, 2013 at the Augustine Golf Course in Stafford, Virginia with the proceeds going to an upcoming innovator in the world of military employment and family transition – The Institute for Veterans Education and Training (IVET). Brigadier General (retired) Jeffrey Horne, CEO of IVET, received a check for $15,000 among 96 Golfers, Wounded Warriors, and former military veterans. IVET relies on generous donations such as these to help support workshops for deserving military members and wounded service men and women like those scheduled to begin in Northern Virginia on September 9 this year.

He went on to say, “Please never forget that your opportunity to do so came as a contribution to the security of our Nation that our Troops won for you in a distant, war torn land. They do so to ensure your Freedom and to protect your families. Now it’s our turn to make a difference for them. Take a step forward and say I choose to make a difference in their civilian lives.”
And that’s just what Parsons International did. They donated the entire proceeds of the tournament to IVET. This young non-profit company is proving that coalitions not only win wars – they win better lives for the people that fight those wars. Donations from previous events have gone to the Wounded Warrior Project.
IVET uniquely focuses on the troops and their partners by helping them find their way in the often confusing transition back into the civilian workforce and assisting companies in recruiting military talent as well as in retention, and optimization of their existing workforce. “IVET provides the tools and procedures necessary to help these young folks make 8 key decisions in their lives. Each decision is accompanied with training and education that helps the Troops find certifications and jobs in shortage careers that offer long-term opportunities” said retired Navy Senior Chief Charles Brown and IVET's Leadership Director.
“These are the pragmatic things needed right away to stem the tide of unemployment and associated expensive state and federal programs. It is definitely great to see continued support for a successful military to civilian transition,” said the IVET CEO.
Horne presents an integrated solution to what has become an increasing national focus in the war on reversing high unemployment among young military members. For new veterans aged 18-24, the unemployment rate averaging 17.9% percent, much higher than the average among non-veterans aged 18-24. Some say that number may be as high as 30 percent. The unemployment rate for women in some regions is even higher. What IVET offers is one of the first comprehensive, fully integrated, high tech and high touch career-transition planning seminars for veterans in the region. “This is not just about technology, it’s about people skills too” said Brown.
